ABOUT & FAQ
So what is this site about anyway? Well if the name "The Collie Pedigree" hasn't revealed it yet, it's about rough and smooth collies and their pedigrees. It started as i believe most pedigreesearching starts, as a desire to find out how far back ancestors can be found to ones own dog.
Combined with a computer interest, it grew.....

To find a dog you can either choose from the list of kennels above or you can search it in the search field.
Type some letters that's in the desired dogs name, press enter and voila.
The search is done case-INsensitive and use * and ? as wildcards.
The * equals all (or none) letters.
The question mark represents any single letter that must be correct. Two question marks represents any two letters and so on.

Searchstring Finds: Does not find:
"love"  finds any dog with love in it's name. Beebops Love Is In The Air Beebops Lo Verdict
"love*body" finds dogs with any number of letters  between love and body in their name. Beebops Love My Body Tonight Beebops Body Love
"love?body" Beebops Love Body Beebops Love My Body

Most certainly there are faults in this database. Some 30000+ records with roughly 30 fields each is impossible? to keep absolutely correct.
I DO understand the necessity of having accurate records when it comes to such a sensitive matter as dogs health and breeders results though, so rest assured that any fault here within is not made on purpose anyway.

And since the question has arised;
I do not! specifically select the material i enter the dogs from, they are given to me at random.
I do not! select certain info from that material to make any dog/kennel look good or bad.

Because the misc. field is different for each dog it would be a too big task to translate them, so they'll remain swenglish.
Some occurances in the misc.field might be explained here in the FAQ.
As of 1999-05-01 I've started to enter the breeders name in the misc field of the alphabetically first dog from that kennel or breeding if there is no kennelname.

Some of the parents to swedish dogs around 1930 are "qualified" guesses.
Many dogs around this time have parents with no further description than a single name so it's difficult to get them 100% correct.

Owners names are there because i thought it would be helpful for someone who wishes to get further info about a dog/pedigree if beeing able to contact some owner in the "pedigree-chain". If anyone is offended by having their name displayed then i'll remove it.

On
the technical thankyoulist i'd like to thank Dwayne Bailey, who wrote the first cgi-script which started the running of this pedigree-thingie.
Thereafter i must give a big thankyou to Steffen Gutmann for all support over the years on MUIbase.
Finally but mostly, many thanks to Jonas Andersson and Jan Granström for letting me use their www-facilities.

Mats Granström.

  • Why does some dogs have additional data within brackets after their name?
Some dogs have the same name, they are therefore separated with some additional data, placed within brackets.
The additional data might be one of their parents, their registration number etc.

  • What kind of dog is X-Unknown?
X-Unknown is not a real dog, X-Unknown is used when a dogs parents are and will probably forever be unknown.

  • How could it be that so many dogs are born on 19xx-01-01?
The info about these birthdates has only been what year they were born. The database-program requires a complete date in it's date-field so it has become the 1 of January just to make it complete.
NOTE! Some dogs ARE born on that date, it'll just have to remain a mystery which are and which aren't. :)

  • Why is there a limit on the number of dogs you can see per day?
Unfortunately some people have used automatic downloaders which makes the server work alot.
Since i am on these servers out of other peoples kindness i can't let my collie-business use up all of their capacity and therefore i've been forced to set a limit.
This limit could unfortunately cause some problems. Suppose that two (or more) people use the same dial-up internet provider which randomly gives them an internet identity. They will from time to time get the same identity (not at the same time) and thus might the max number of dogs already have been "used" up by one of them earlier that day. The only tip i can give for this problem right now is to make a new call to your IP-provider and "hope" for another identity.
